Fuel consumption TD42

Post by 351ciofgrunt »

I'm thinking about buying a TD42 GQ, just wondering what sort of fuel consumption I can expect to get from a TD42 or TD42 turbo. How km's to the tank are you guys getting? Probably be running 33's

Some figyres I have had over the years as an average when touring and 4wding unless stated otherwise;

2006 4.2TD wagon (4.1 diffs) 13-14lt / 100 kms, (standard except for 3"exhaust) (Also 18lts/100kms towing TVAN across the Simpson)
2002 4.2TD wagon (3.9 diffs) 16-18lt / 100kms (boosted and tuned, 3"exhaust)
2005 4.2TD ute (4.1 diffs) 13-14lt / 100 kms (standard, and used 18lt towing race car to broken hill)
1989 4.2TD MWB (4.6 diffs) 20 -22lt / 100 kms (JPC turbo, pump mods roller bearing etc) this was usage when competing in 2006 OBC
1999 4.2TD wagon (3.9 diffs) 14-16lt / 100kms (standard exhaust etc)

1995 CoilCab Ute, TD05 Turbo 12psi boost, 33" KM2's, 4" Lift, Bar, Winch.
Full tank of 80L is lucky to give me 500km driving to work, which is mostly highway so about 16L/100km
Load her up and it goes up to about 20L/100km
Get out there!!

Wound up fuel pump, extractors, snorkel, that's the engine mods, running on 33's.
I get 15.5L - 16L per 100K's round town (stop start all the time) and i drops to 11.5L per 100k's when i do a solid tank of fuel on the motor way, the engine has 320 000 on it now too.

1993 shortie GQ, as a stocker, TD42: 8.5 litres per 100k everywhere when my Mum owned/drove it. She used to keep very good records with it, always attempting to get it down as low as possible. She could tell when it was time to change the air filter because the fuel consumption would creep up to 9.

99 ute, 4.1 ratios, 35's : 19 litres per 100k.
With turbo and 4.6 ratios : 13 to 14 litres per 100k. Best ever recorded was 12.5 litres between Tenterfield to Dubbo.
Running 38's in low range and playing hard in sand at 3000 to 3500rpm : About 30 kilometres per 1/4 tank.
