1hz fuel pump
hi all i've just bought myself a 91 model 75 series with 330k on the clock and it blows bulk black smoke also the previous owner said the injector pump had the fuel screw adjusted and the timing advanced i've also gone and checked the air filter and it's running good on fuel so dose anyone know the standard setting on the fuel screw and are the any marks on the housing for the timming. any advice would be great
Re: 1hz fuel pump
There is no 'standard' setting for the fuel screw, each pump is set on a test bench. You can just turn the screw in a little at a time until you are happy with it, a quarter turn is a fair bit so go easy with it.
There will be timing marks on the pump housing where it bolts to the timing gear cover. The marks are just for initial installation. Setting the timing is more complex. You can change the timing by rotating the pump left or right, but it only takes a very slight change in the pump position to change the timing a lot, get it wrong and you could cause engine damage.
