Hilux tray

I am about to start Making a new tray up for my lux just wondering if 2mm wall thickness rhs would be strong enough or would I be best off using 2.5mm

The main rails and the sides of my tray are 3mm.
The rear section I did in 5mm as I wanted extra strength around the recessed tail lights etc.
10 years later and they still have never bent, nor have I ever broken a tail light.
The cross bars are only 1.6 from memory.

But yes I think 2mm would be enough.

What are the chances of your tray hitting or sliding into rocks? If you're still running leaves in the rear dont forget that the added wait of the tray will help the rear work better....I'd lean towards something thicker, just my 2 cents

i did body building in my apprenticeship, 2mm wall was used in rhs, you have to be carefull when you weld it to checkerplate, the rhs bows, soo keep the welds small and spread the heat out!!. if your going to put rope rails on use 20nb pipe, looks good!! fatter pipe looks the part.

I used 3mm wall for bed and legs to chassis on this. Didnt have anything bend and 2 blokes can lift it is not heavy. Also use 3mm checkerplate as 2 will sag in between braces.
