GQ patrol chassis weak spots

Post by forkcy »

hey guys

just keen to know all the weak points in a gq patrol chassis so i can brace them before theres a chance to become a problem. i know the mount on the frount pan hard is a problem i just know 100% sure were they crack (i think there was a post on here about that ). Any pics would be great and what people have done to fix this.

Depending on if its a wagon or ute. There is a join in the chassi on the inside of the rail just in front of the lower trailling arm moutns. On the utes I think most got a dodgy plate welded across it from the factory. But early Wagons I know didn't get it.

My engineer pointed it out to me. Going to run the grinder down mine reweld it then plate it.

everywhere  seriously the chassis is super thin even when compared to my daihatsu.

i welded on a bar about 2x200mm long onto the chassis and levered on it - tore a hole in the chassis before the steel bent

brace the bends up the chassis front an back and you will be peaches

sweet thanks guys, yeah i know there not the strongest chassis around i have seen my mates bend quite a few not doing a huge amount to them. And then ive seen my mate hit a tree at about 20-30km hour in a 75 and bend nothing but the bullbar (it was right on the edge to). patrols have great running gear but could do with a bit more on the chassis.
