Rear winch
Just wondering all the people with winch's on the rear. How often do you actually use them as I'm weighing up weather it's worth putting one in.

Re: Rear winch
used to use mine a couple of times a drive , but mostly for pulling the car down when loading it on the straps on the traileer
Re: Rear winch
I've only ever seen one time that it would have been used in a comp. But the car in question didn't have one so had to set up a heap of snatch blocks instead to get themselves of the rocks. Like a lot of things you have on board. You only use it when you need it and really miss it if you don't have it.

Re: Rear winch
Mate has a high mount front and rear. He reckons he uses the rear more than the front. He uses his rig for pig hunting though. So its a case of get in retrive pig get out.
Anything is possible, it just comes down to time and money.

Re: Rear winch
I've wished I had one once but I've got to weigh up the extra weight in the car verses it's usefulnes

Re: Rear winch
Had one on the rear of my 100 series and have made up the mounts to fit it to my GU, as has already been said once you've got used to the idea of having one wouldn't go back. Adds a lot peace of mind when out alone knowing that you've got winches both ends. I've also found it's great if you get stuck at the start of a hole to be able to winch out backwards and have another crack with a bit more momentum rather than having to drag yourself the whole way through on the front winch. Was also very useful when I rolled the ute at the top of a long hill and had no brakes due to the ABS pump running dry and no drive as the auto box had lost it's oil, lowered myself down on the rear winch.
Re: Rear winch
We have used ours a few times already! And it's only been on the back of the 80 for one comp haha, hasn't been a comp where we would not have used it if w had it, but the WTC rounds we do are quite technical for winch comps.
What type events are you looking to do? And do you do much social driving?

Re: Rear winch
Mate comps will be very limited as the truck is my Dailey driver but keen to push hard social wheeling

Re: Rear winch
Will deinately be a benifit for harder social wheeling aswell then! And if you are in convoy makes some recoveries alot lot easier then having to turn around in a precarious position to do a recovery with the front winch.
Re: Rear winch
Exactly right. Im just putting 1 in my new rear bar now. Most of the time I wheel with less capable 4x4's. They give almost everything a go, doesnt mean they make it. They will get halfway up and get stuck and I dont even have to turn around. I can use my front winch to secure a tree truck for extra support and then rear winch them up. But... If it was just my truck on its own. I recon I would hardly use it. But, still good to have.
