Hyme joints on the road...
Hey
Looking into running hyme joints on a 4 link rear. Curious about how they perform on the road in a daily driver?
Heard mixed reviews on them.
Do they give out much vibration through the arms chassis etc?
How do they wear too?
Cheers Justin

Re: Hyme joints on the road...
They wear quicker because they are an open joint, they are exposed to abrasive grit, dirt, water etc
Also not legal for on road use.

Re: Hyme joints on the road...
mine have only just worn out after 45,000 klm/5years and i am engineered with them for road use , will be replacing them
with a combination of heims and jonnie joints . i prefer hiems over rubber bushes as my car doesnt seem to wander about
with heims like it does with rubber bushes in the control arms .

Re: Hyme joints on the road...
Yeah already been given green light from engineer as long as the size of them is in proportion to the rest of the vehicle, weight etc
flexytj - so you've used rubber bushes also? what about a difference between them, in regards to more noise through metal on metal?

Re: Hyme joints on the road...
metal joints are a little noiser but aslong as you look after them ie wd 40 them once a week they are not too bad
mine are on a long arm suspension setup on my jeep and i dont think they ride any worse than the gq trailing arm
bushes i have used in their place , bushes make the car feel like it wanders all over the road . i prefer heims

Re: Hyme joints on the road...
Evolution Machining make great rebuildable heims at a good price.
Re: Hyme joints on the road...
The JJ's are very substantial units - which might cause space issues sometimes - and really cheap to rebuilt should you ever need to.
Thy are the sort of size that an engineer looks at and goes "tick".....

Re: Hyme joints on the road...
All i can see are "urethane bushed...." . I don't think thats comparable with the more common definition of a rod end.

It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.
