Re: 79 series coil conversion????
Do some searching in the Members section, there's been a few done, though maybe 75 series
Easiest way is to use all the suspension mounts, links, brackets etc from 80 series chassis

Re: 79 series coil conversion????
mine is a 2001 hzj79 iv done some looking and the 80 rear end is nearly 100mm wider than the 79, it works with the new v8 utes but the only way iv worked out to do it is to either cut 80 or 100 series diff 100 suits better as it has the same stud partern or cut the mounts off them and weld it onto the 79 diff

Re: 79 series coil conversion????
100 series diff has stronger axles and stronger hub studs and bolts and stronger diff centre too compared to 80series

Re: 79 series coil conversion????
Yeah i decided on doing 100 series diffs front and rear so the wheel track was the same front and back, then doing a 3link A frame set up in rear with 6 inch lift. now just got to get dollars organised. Going to keep same 79 series centres and use the 100 axels which all match. Gives me better stability too with the wider wheel base.
Just wondering if wat rear springs people are running with there conversions please cheers

Re: 79 series coil conversion????
A mate of mine got his 99 79 coil converted by Brett Morgan from custom offroad. I don't think he is there anymore though, someone on here will know where he is. The rear end was from a 100 series. My brother now owns it and it's getting a bit of tlc. I'll get some photos next time I'm over there.

Re: 79 series coil conversion????
Yeah ALOT of panelbeating, respray new tray and losing some lift. . It was used in a few comps and looks like it. The rear end is perfect. It has 4" coils in it, with a 2" bodylift.

Yeah slowly becoming a daily driver. It's a long term rebuild. Only got a bad photo of the back end.

Re: 79 series coil conversion????
hey mate was just wondering of wat rear diff was used in the conversion if you know what it is? anymore pics mate cheers.
if dollars permit will have a 100 series diff cut down to same width as the 79 front and run full air bag rear with 3 link and 6 inch lift and -30 offset rims with 315/75/16 to stop it rubbing.
All input and advice much appreciated cheers

Re: 79 series coil conversion????
Am a little unsure with the reasoning. I don't mean to sound rude. (if it comes off that way)
Why bother cutting up a 100 series axle to turn it into a 79 series axle?
If the only reason is to keep the mounts on the housing? Then you are going to cut them off anyway to make an A frame?
I'd keep everything you have now and weld all the coil stuff to it. Benefit of going 105 series axles is width, nothing more.
I know your talking about the rear but if you were considering doing full 105 axle front to match the 105 rear, the distance between both the front radius arms on a 105 series housing is wider than a 79 series. It's not a direct bolt in. Not hard to rectify either.
I've seen a mates one done. Using his original rear axle and 80/105 series 5 link mounts. Neat job, looks good. Behaves as if it was factory fitted. If not better.
Id keep away from odd ball parts. Especially when it will cost more time/money for the same outcome.
