GU ARB Rear Bar and LRA Tank dont fit

Post by Swerve »

Started fitting the ARB rear bar to the GU today, after grinding of the tow hook, painting the rear crossmember finially got the bar into position on tyres and lined up. Called a mate over for the finial placement BUT it all went to crap.

have a LRA long range tank and the ARB hits this tank. It will be a easy mod to fix by grinding 1.5" off each side of the bar. Poor form as majority of GU's with these bars would be configured for touring and most likley have long range tanks, even worse when ARB sell LRA tanks which is my problem.

SO ANY ONE WITH A ARB REAR BAR AND LONG TANK, CAN YOU PLEASE CHECK YOUR BAR FOR ME.

I will need to trim were the red line is on both sides. Would apprieciate if others can check theres if they have a ARB and LRA tank.

Is that a new bar or second hand? from memory very early ones needed to be cut. I think they changed design slightly

Well trimmed the bar, waiting for paint to dry for a 2nd coat and fingers crossed, dry enough this afternoon for another go.

As suggested by Bordertek on Patrol4x4 I put a nice curve in those corners to prevent cracking, bar slid straight on now it was trimmed. only held on by the 4 bumper bolts, will bolt in properly later on with 10 more bolts. Then the side support braces and finally lights.

Gotta say ARB really went overboard with the engineering.

How's this !!!

Standard tow bar mounts with 3 chassis bolts each rail, two small bolts up under cross members (Total 8 bolts)

ARB has, get ready for this :)

3 chassis bolts each rail, two small bolts up under cross members (As stock towbar, 8 bolts)
2 bumper mount bolts each rail (4 bolts)
tie down bolts each rail (2 bolts)
4 bolts into rear crossmember (4 bolts)
Total - 18 bolts :) trust me that bar aint going nowhere :)

Well it will go wherever the chassis goes at least. Good looking bar though
