How much ???`

Post by shortgq »

Hi all,

I've got an old GQ patrol 1990 model thats been sitting about for awhile. The brakes barely pull it up, and being four wheel disc this probably souldn't be.

I'm guessing the calipers are seized so I'm wondering how much it might cost to get fixed?

Also, is it relatively easy to do yourself?

Whats your thoughts.

Cheers

Can't comment on the cost, however if the pistons are seized you may have fun getting them out......
Take it to a brake specialist and get them to give you a quote.
My friends aren't holding me back..... I'm pulling 'em forward.

I rebuilt my GQ front calipers before I fitted GU diffs and the seal kits weren't too expensive, I cant remember how much they cost but they shouldn't be any more than about $30 each. A new caliper piston was $55 from the local brake specialist. Getting the pistons out was done with compressed air. Putting it all back together was straight forward, the thing to look out for is the caliper piston seal has a taper on it and needs to be installed with the higher edge of the taper towards the caliper if that makes sense....
