I understood the article was coming out in the September issue?
They must be desperate for something to pad the magazine out with.
I am currently unemployed so cannot afford to buy the Mag.

Bill, the write up on the forced articulation system made it appear to be a pretty simple concept, although the photos dont show much. Could this system be easily adaptable to other vehicles (ie my Rangie :lol: ) or does it take up more room than is available in other vehicles?

Thanks guys, but with the benefit of hindsight I think I could have done some things a little better. I have been thinking that a "Z" shaped torsion bar connecting the front and rear axle housings would have been simpler and more space efficient for the forced articulation system.
The arrangement on Nigels vehicle could be fitted to a Rangey though.

According to the article "this vehicle has more switches and gadgets than most light aircraft...." but it makes no mention of how many cupholders there are? Bill, can you enlighten us? :D

The article mentioned that the hybrid has a salisbury in the back running 4.7's and the front has matching 4.7's? Have you had any issues with the 4.7's in the front Bill given the stress that these would be put under? I have heard a number of stories regarding the supposed weakness of Rover 4.7's.

Nigels last Landy was very good did a few club trips with him and Tim..

All the interior appointments and electrics are Nigels own handiwork. I come from the series 1 school of interior design.
I do believe that Nigel has found space and has installed at least 1 cup holder since I last saw the truck. The front ring and pinion is actually a 4.75 (from Maxidrive).
Jack Mcnamara 4.7 hypoids weren't lasting too long at that time. I am not too sure they are any good yet. All their other ratio's seem to be ok though. If I were doing it again I would choose a standard Hilux ratio and match the rear with a Dana 60 ring and pinion. I also think strengthened Toyota CV's should be fitted.

I seen nigels car quite a few times recently, and some of the pictures about the forced articulation and suspension systems just dont do it justice, but a good write up anyway, it is extrememly impresive!

Thanks Defender90. I was only joking about not affording the mag, But I think only subscribtion holders have got them at this time They are not at my local news agent yet.

2 things though Bill.

How does the watts linkage at the front affect bump/roll steer? Theory says it should be affected.

The bulldog rope clamps on the winch rope appear to be on back to front - the serrated saddles should be on the tight side of the rope, so they don't slip. This is not aimed at you Bill, just pointing out for those that may not know what is correct.

I put the Watts linkage in so that the articulation geometry was identical left to right. with the large section tyres and double front articulation, the standard panhard rod would pull the tyre on one side into the spring tower wheras when articulating in the opposite direction the tyre would have lots of clearance.
If you raise and lower the chassis on a hoist with the wheels on the ground, the steering wheel moves noticably. If you could hold the steering wheel against this movement then yes, you would get bump steer, but in the real world out there on the road this is barely discernable.
I think since I last saw the truck the winch hook has been changed so the bulldog grips would have been removed. We were trying to get hold of a hook with integral bulldog grip like they had on Bamford wiches fitted to some army Landeys, but they are only made for half inch rope.

Bill, thanks for that answer regarding bump steer with the watts linkage.

That's the sort of information I wanted. I'm building a front 5 link for the bushie and might look at a similar watts link instead of a panhard now that you have said that.
