I just bought a td42 and my pyro gauge reads up at 550 while traveling up a hill on the road and my mate has the same car and his was reading 380 degrees so what can it be

do you have them installed in exactly the same spot, are they the same quality guages and temp senders, were you in the same gear, are your airfilters the same age/condition? these are just a few of many, many variables.

what are your concerns? 550deg is generally the accepted upper limit if the sender is placed post turbo.

post more info if you want a better answer.

Hey mate yeah they are the same brand vdo gauges and we where both doing 100ks in 4th gear, i just want to no why his runs a lot cooler than mine? They both have 160g kilmeters on the clock. What is the safe range it should sit at? When is it runnnning to hot?

Your mate is either running less fuel then you are or his pyro sender is further to the turbo than yours.
550c for short periods of time won't be an issue.

General rule of thumb is to back off the throttle when it gets to 550c.

They can vary a lot from car to car.... A stock GU 4.2 can easily hit 650 deg in factory tune.

Your mate may have better breathing, a more efficient intercooler, or less fuel being injected. 550 up a hill is not an issue, over 550 for prolonged periods can apparently do damage..... But plenty of cars run at this level for years with no issues at all.

Has anyone ever found a decent website that lists common cars pyro and water temps?

Start a thread here in General Tech and people could post what vehicle, motor, aspiration etc and the figures they are getting. Maybe it could end up as a sticky. It would be a good comparison.

Gq 1995, TD42, originally non turbo, 500,000ks. Water cooled BB Garret turbo, 3inch strait through exhaust with pyro probe post turbo. Large FMI, fuel pump turned up 1/2 turn. Exhaust temp never goes over 500deg, And I do push it hard at times.
A mate has a ZD30 GU, all the anti grenade mods are done except exhaust, his exhaust temp gets to 650 easily on the same hills when I'm following. 3inch coming soon to see if that helps.

A work mTe has a new naval the v6 turbo diesels. He I's running 285s and sits on 180kph for 2 and 3 hours at a time with pyro at 850-900 no issues yet. That's post turbo "diesel mechanic by trade so he knows how to set things up"

No Celsius. Has the auto box and sits on 3200RPM and with a tray fully loaded with tool boxes and tool

Hopefully it blows up on him soon, I don't want my family driving around on the roads with farkwits doing 180 kmh in a fully loaded fourby, or any other car for that matter....

We did that on Patrol4x4.com with some interesting results.

Those of us with decent intercoolers generally had much lower EGT temps.

Can anybody beat this?
Post up your results.

Sounds like Rolly before his Patrol found its way onto Awill's list.

Pump timing will also have a large affect on egt's.
Skegbudley that photo is worthless, what are you trying to show?

What is worthless about the photo?

260c @ 110kph on a flat road. Can't you read gauges?
That is a hell of a lot less than stock. (Even with my boost turned down)

I can read.
What I can't see is were your foot is or what was happening before your took the photo.
I can get the same or better depends on were my foot is.
Point being it is not a good example.

The pic was taken on a dead straight, level section of road at cruise speed.
The pic tells you several things. You can see from it that I was cruising at 110kph on a flat road. That I was not coasting and therefore showing an lower EGT than normal. It shows my boost level. It shows my EGT.
We have a collection of these pics from different members for comparison.
It all makes sense when you compare them together.

The Only thing I left out (My bad)is what engine I am running and the mods I have done to achieve these results.
2003 ZD30 Di.
Cross Country intercooler.
Full nads install. (Dawes valve, needle valve, EGR block, catch can)

I have done most those mods on my mates ZD30 but he has stock I/C with a fan, I haven't seen his temps look anywhere near that low at 110ks, they are much better than stock though.
Mate have you got standard exhaust?

Yeah mate. Exhaust is standard ATM. I wanted to get the intake side of things correct before chipping it and fitting a larger exhaust.
