Atempted to replace water pump, thermostat and bottom housing o ring on my td42 89 on the weekend.
Snapped 3 bolts one at back off thermostat the long one and two on top going into the head. So 2 broken bolts holding on horizontal and one verticle made for a good ol time. Anyhow snapped a plastic fitting coming out of thermostat housing sqaure fitting , i thought it was temp sender but i located one on ebay and its the round fitting below the one i broke. So what did i break ?

that will be the temp sensor for the glowplug timer.
The dreaded long bolt strikes again. Been bitten a couple of times by that one.
Buy yourself a helocoil / recloil kit. and grease the thermostat bolts EVERY time.

Dunno if it will start, you would THINK that Nissan would make it reasonably fail safe.
Metal based anti seize may make it worse... its brass bits screwed into aluminium so its already an electrolytic corrosion issue. I use a bit of loctite hydraulic sealant and that is all on tings like that.

yep ..never use "copper never seize" it makes it worse.......use the graphite based stuff

The car will start without the temp sender for the glow plugs but the glow plugs won't work so it will be hard to start and you'll get a massive belch of smoke out of it when it finally kicks over. Doesn't hurt it but just make sure that you let it run long enough to warm up properly so that it burns off most of the soot. It will clag up your injectors over a long time if not sorted properly.

bit old but i'm pretty sure you can manualy glow gq plugs., same as mq/k hold the key half way between on and start, and it should kick the glow relay in.
