Td300 engine transplant questions...

Post by V.W.Dave »

Ok so I have a 95 tdi with a 5 speed behind it. My engine and trans is in good condition and has never missed a beat. The body is beet to hell and the chassis had a little tweak to it. I have come across a very strate very clean 95 tdi auto that has put a leg out of bed but everything else is Mickey mouse. Even the auto was serviced a few weeks before the engine let go. I am picking it up for a few hundred. But it is missing the transfer as the guy needed it for his other rig.

Now my question is how hard is it going to be to change everything over and make the other disco a 5speed? I know the pedle box and the center consol and shifters dash insert are all going to get swoped over that's no big deal. I am conserned about is how much if any wiring will have to get changed over? Is it a dash out relace everything job or a simple swop computers and leave the extra plugs hangen kind of job?

Second question is if I stay with the auto and just swop my motor in ( as much as I hate the auto I think it will be much easier) will my transfer simply unbolt off mine and bolt up to the auto? I remember reading somewhere about different spline counts????
