Hey can some one tell me if I have a complete rear diff of a early 80 that has drum brakes can I go to a wrecker and strip all the brakes off a disc rear end and transplant it over? basicly I am asking are the housings exactly the same? Or can it be done with a few simple mods?

I may be wrong, but i think drum brake 80series have semi floating axles, disc braked 80series have full floating axle/hubs.

Wouldn't it be easier, less work to swap a complete rear diff over?

Not when the 80 diff I have has been completely shaved and modified to be put under a Rover.

We have good conections with a few wreckers up here and I can get all the bits cheap but I want to make sure they will work.

A quick look on Toyodiy at parts reference for a 1990 std 80series (had either drums or discs), toyodiy make no distinction in part numbers between drum braked or disc braked rear diff housing. So it looks like the housings are probably all the same?
