Ok all you rover boys out there..
I need to know if i can flip an LT230 transfer so i get a left hand drop front output.. Is it possible and still be able to shift high and low ranges.. without oil leaks... I know I know its pommy shit and they always leak ..
From what i can see the flipping the case so it runs upside down should still work and be sealed..

I tried this on a project which never saw the light of day - I could not stop the oil leaking around the O-ring seals on the selector input shafts, New oversized O-rings and it would stop leaking untill I moved the shafts. Both the centre lock and high/low shafts leaked considerably - and that's just sitting in the chassis in the shed. Perhaps if you machined a proper seal or double O-rings on these shafts oil might stay on the inside.
ps. Not all 230's leak oil.
Never got to see how the 230 would lubricate when upside down so can't comment on that.

After talking to a few boys in the states Iv decided to cut my axles up and do a swap from left to right tubes so I'll be running the the LT the right way now..

Any reason you wouldn't use an Atlas, Matt? I'd imagine getting one 2nd hand from the States wouldn't be too hard and most of them woud have the drop you're after.
But on the other hand, setting you're diffs up for the LT will allow you to put everything in exactly the right spot. Just keep in mind how farkin H-U-G-E the cast section of a Dana is, when you're looking at where you will position the centre. For instance, if you're looking to get the maximum offset to one side, allow for the lower and upper link brackets to be welded on the axle tube, rather than the cast section.

I have positioned the engine to the left of the buggys frame so i have the clearance for the pinion for this same reason...
