So I have some new tyres to go on my hj47 troopy. Rather than put them on my old rusty split rims I was thinking of getting some nice new-ish GU Patrol 6 stud split rims (damn toyota 5 stud rims!! ). Why not run any Toyota rim before the 100 series? Better offset and smaller i.d. 80 series etc.

Because there some nice and shiny GU wheels for sale in my area. Perhaps I will wait around for some earlier Landcruiser wheels.

Agree, 80 series or even Hilux wheels come in 16" splitties, dunno how late Hiluxes keep with splits but definitely the shape up til 2004 had splits in 2000-ish anyway.
Dunno if there is anything special about the early rims, but they seem to be hard to find up here at least, and alot of people want them.

The old Luxy was fun, but with a young family comes great responsibility.
So I swapped it for a 60. Should be able to take the whole mob camping, plus I got an extra gear, 2 less cylinders and A/C.

GU will hit on the tie rod end. They are a P0 offset and you need at least a N13 (to just clear) or a N22 would be better. There are no 16x8 OE tubeless rims off later model vehicles that will clear the tie rod ends

Ended up doing what I was trying to put off, taking them off one at a time sanding and painting the insides. Quite a process considering 2 coats of paint takes ~18 hours to properly dry. It's weird how some were quite rusty and some weren't at all, and some rims are almost impossible to get off.
