I have a ln106 which I changed to a 5le motor, I needed the 3L sump on the 5L motor.
You then need to adjust the bumpstops/ make bumpstops to stop arms hitting, I have a flat pitman arm with no dropped hanger and it clears but only just.

Re: ln106 hilux cross over steering sump clearance issue
If you have a later model IFS engine in a live axle Hilux, you need to fit the correct live axle sump and also oil filter adapter/oil cooler assembly.
Otherwise you will have clearance issues on the sump, and also you will find the oil filter will get smashed by the diff housing with any suspension movement. This is even without crossover steering.
Good thing is the 3L and I think even late 2L parts will work. You should be able to get rid of the smaller drop at the front of the sump to get a little more clearance for crossover steering I think.

The old Luxy was fun, but with a young family comes great responsibility.
So I swapped it for a 60. Should be able to take the whole mob camping, plus I got an extra gear, 2 less cylinders and A/C.

Re: ln106 hilux cross over steering sump clearance issue
5L and 5LE are the same engine but the E has a computer?
Where would be best place to source a 3L sump?
Roughly what would I be looking at price wise?
Do I only need the sump and oil pick up to change it over?
Will RUF and 3L sump get rid of my clearance issue 100%, no shaving required?
Does changing the sump from model to model require the oil filter to be moved as well?

Re: ln106 hilux cross over steering sump clearance issue
no the oil filter setup is different between the 2 as the 5L comes out in a IFS vechicle and has the oil filter vertical. where as the 2L and 3L have the pumpkin which would foul on the filter. so there assembly mounts the same place but used a horizontal mount insted. i havent played with crossover steering but the sumps are completely different

Re: ln106 hilux cross over steering sump clearance issue
Yes your correct the 'E' is computer controlled 5L motor.
Not sure why you would need to change oil cooler housing, as I didn't.
I went from the small Z9 on the 3L to the larger Z334 (was in the 5Le from factory) I don't have/nor could see any issues with having it on there as it still sits higher then sump.
You need any year model 3L sump and will bolt up fine, I just (from memory) bent the oil pickup and made a new mark on the dipstick (it will be in the wrong spot now)
I don't think RUF and 3L sump will completely get rid of issues but setting up bump stops will.
I use 4runner/surf coil rear bump stops in the front of my truck and they work alot better then crap lux triangular ones.
Sump should not be more the $150 get one off blown motor either off eBay/ gumtree/ Facebook buy swap sell pages.
I can get photos if needed to help, I just don't have RUF but I have highsteer.

Re: ln106 hilux cross over steering sump clearance issue
My lux has already had the oil filter setup swaped to the older z9 horizontal. Plan now is to source a 3l sump and oil pick up from and solid axle lux. Hopefully this will solve my issues and if vy some chance it doesnt I will have to muck around with my bump stops although ive already increased them by a good inch on the front. If anyonr has or knows someone with a 3l or 2l sump and oil pick up from a solid axle lux in sydney let me know please. Thanks for ur help and if its ok could u post some photos up so I know what im looking for 100%

Re: ln106 hilux cross over steering sump clearance issue
Oil filter/cooler housing, I think it may be 2WD that the filter points down in. then the pumpkin smashes the top of the filter in and oil comes out.
Had an ln106 with 22R engine on the hoist yesterday, the sump is completely flat at the front and would have most clearance of any factory sumps, dunno if it could be used as a donor on the diesel?

Re: ln106 hilux cross over steering sump clearance issue
the information ive been sourced so far is the 2L and 3L diesel engine sumps are interchangeable and should give me my best chance of clearing the rods for cross over. if by some chance RUF and the 3L sump doesnt clear im hoping a dropped front cross memeber will give a little more clearance and bumpstops may need to be adjusted accordingly
Re: ln106 hilux cross over steering sump clearance issue
I have a old 2L in my Hilux and i'm running high steer.
First off there is a slight difference between the 2L & 3L sumps.
The 2L sump uses a rubber gasket (It is tricky to get on and genuine replacements are expensive)
The 3L sump uses a chemical gasket (gasket goo)
I was going to cut down the front of my sump and weld it up but I found a suitable replacement of of a Hiace Van.
That is a google image and the story behind the 2L-T written on it is that a guy in Canada bought this sump from a wreckers in Australia. They might have pulled it off a Hilux but that is not what it was originally on. Also that hose clamped on there is actually a low oil level sender bolted to the side, it has been replaced with a hose nipple for the turbo oil drain.
I still had to run 50mm bump stop extensions but i was happy to do this to stop my inner guards being pulled out by my muddies. The only slight stuff around is the drain plug is directly over the pinion on the diff so dropping the oil means a little more clean up on top of the diff.
