Hey guys
just looking at upgrading the front end of the Hilux with high steer so I can fit my 37s
Also wondering about engineering side? Any issues was it straight forward?
Was planning on using a kit from LROR( high steer kit) and buying a IFS mounting kit and shock hoops from BUDS. I've read everywhere it says you need a 2" dropped crossmember?? Can I make 1??? Or is it easy for engineering purposes to buy 1??!

I bought my histeer kit from Locktup, they are great to deal with. I also got the IFS box mounting plates from them too.
Not sure about engineering it though.
With the 2inch dropped hanger, I was told that running it will keep the pinion angle happy, so I bought one from Superior. Buds does a 1inch dropped hanger too.
You could probably make a dropped hanger if youre handy with a welder, RHS and some plate would be all you need.

Yer I normally buy all my gear from locktup as they are great to deal with but can buy high steer arms for $150ish plus freight. Plan on reusing ny tie rod and custom making a drag link. Do you feel you needed the 2" cross member as my suspension works a treat and my suspension kit I bought from

If you buy histeer arms from Low Range in the US, wont they be for LHD??
Ive also heard that the tierod is the same as an 80, not sure if this is true though.

They have RHD version? Haven't looked into the drag link setup yet but shouldn't be to hard to make its just rod tapped and 2 tie rod ends screwed in.

I put high steer into my hilux and didn't NEED a dropped front hanger. I did however change the dropped pitman arm for a low range billet pitman arm. It is about halfway between the stock IFS box arm and a flat arm.

So your saying with the right pitman arm I don't need a dropped hangerV as I don't want to remake my bar again and I like the height it sits at

I've had high steer in my lux for 6 years and don't run a dropped hanger, but there is a few points to consider (well with my setup)
1- i have 10" travel shocks on standard mounts, at full down travel the spring just flex's up and touch's the drag link (only just) so with a dropped front hanger i would have more room to run 12-14" shocks but i cannot on current setup
2- yes you def can fit high steer without it but u need the flat pitman arm which trail gear make and its a tight fit
3- with a dropped front hanger you don't need castor wedges
4- you can drop the hangers down without putting the whole piece rhs hanger on by just dropping the hanger itself, search it as ive seen a few people that have done it.
Me personally i have 16.5" travel coil rear and use the whole length of shocks so to have it a bit more limited in front has worked ok for me so far, but I will drop hangers by 2" and a for 14" shocks as the truck as been getting more serious over the years.

I Run The Locktup4x4 3" Bolt In Flex Kit Which Consist Of 10" Shocks in The Front Which It Maxes Out Atm But I Only Have 12" In the Rear, So Should Still be Even.
I Have Seen The Mounts Dropped Without The Hanger Also But It Scares Me As It Doesn't L0ok Very Strong And Looks Flimsy And Not Sure A Engineer Would Like That.
I Think For All The Effort And Cost Of Engineering I Might Put The 2" Dropped Hanger As I Don't Wanna Do It Later And Waste Money On A Engineer Again.

yeh they do a right hand version. and if you can get your hands on a 23mm right and left hand tap let me know- or you could buy them for the price of a drag link with rod ends already done- thats of your using an 80 series rod end which all these kits use to my knowledge. or you could buy the weld in bungs.old lux wrote:They have RHD version? i made my own steering box plates, that way i could move the box as far forward as possible (cut and belted the rad support) and angle the box so that the standard drop pitman arm works and is as close to the chassis as possible. I did it originally with no drop front hanger, 14" shocks (uses every inch) and the front diff is 65mm forward of standard. the reason for this is with the diff moved so far forward the pitman arm and tie rod hit each other so you need the steering box mounted as far forward as possible. Anything is possible, you just need to trial fit, double check and be patient
