I have a half installed GTurbo on my 75. Bolted on, water and oil connected. I am now waiting on the intercooler to come from SA which is taking longer than expected and I won't see it before next week. Probably Tuesday at least. I'm going away next weekend and would like to drive it but I'm running out of time.
I still need to get the exhaust fitted, then tune it.
So...
Would it be possible to connect the intake manifold back up to the air box as standard and limp it to the exhaust shop (1km) and back? Letting the turbo just do it's thing but obviously not build up any pressure? Or is this a bad idea?
The only thing I can think of is unfiltered air being drawn in and out of the turbo. But as it's not going into the motor itself, it shouldn't matter I would think.
the dirt and dust particals wont do the intake fins any good on the turbo. tilt tray it there and tilt tray it home? can you make hose to put between turbo and intake for the time being?

Cheaper than a tow is to just put a super cheap pod filter on the turbo intake to stop pulling crap in. Make sure you boost control that gturbo down to 15 psi or less or you'll have 6 awesomely cracked pistons as paperweights!!! Ask me how I know!!
i suppose your waiting to get a cross country cooler??? i was told 4wks wait to start with, then 6wks, and now its been 8wks and i think they've only just started to my kit together. i feel your frustration, my only consulation is its for my car and not someone paying me to install one!!

Spot on Lepa. I held off ordering after I first emailed them as I wasn't ready. When I did order I was told 4-6 weeks worst case senario. We're now well into the 7th and it's not looking like it'll leave this week. Had I known it would be even a 3 week wait, I'd have ordered it when I first enquired.
They seem to have a pretty good reputation as far as the intercooler itself goes though so I'm hoping it's worth the wait.
Nice. So I have a few options now anyway.
Pod filter,
Connect the turbo to the intake pipe with some kind of hose,
Drag it (anyone know the legalities?)
Might even be able to get a flat tray.
Intersting. I'm keen to hear other people's thoughts on that as turbo's aren't something I've dabbled with before...
Would keeping revs as dead low as possible and a crawling pace help?
I blew a turbo up once in the bush and destroyed it completly, so i disconnected the intake from the turbo and put a filter (off the quad) directly onto the crossover pipe and limped home 50k like that.
I had to keep a BIG eye on the egt's but it did get me home.
