Hunting 12HT on startup

Post by Ashley_bmx »

Gday guys,
I have a 12Ht in a 60 series.
I was curious if anyone has heard of them hunting heavily on startup?
My mate has 1 and it does the exact same thing.
Cheers guys

i would be checking that all the glow plugs are heating properly. it sounds like some cylinders are slow to get warm.

No glow plugs on the 12ht. But there is a heater screen on the intake which should be checked.
Also check the idle speed isn't too low.

Is it only on dead cold starts on cold mornings or even after you've been driving a bit?
Are we talking coughing and spluttering or actually revving up and down?

Could be as simple as an air leak in intake plumbing that closes up after it warms up so it's drawing air at idle at greater than the vacuum imposed by the air filter. How old is the pump or injectors? Could the pump tolerances be closing up as It warms up from latent heat

I'd say the idle is too low when dead cold. I had to mess around with idle speed on one at work, they hunt when the idle is too low, almost sound like they are camming over.

Do they have a cold start idle up device? maybe this isnt working and causing the issue? although I dont think they do.
The old Luxy was fun, but with a young family comes great responsibility.
So I swapped it for a 60. Should be able to take the whole mob camping, plus I got an extra gear, 2 less cylinders and A/C.

Mine does the same thing, I've heard it's quite a common thing with them, but I know they don't all do it. Someone once said to me it's something to do with some kind of a governor/diaphragm control that has worn. Nothing to be concerned about but I would love to have it fixed
