GU 3 ltr to a 4.2

Post by yorky 1861 »

Hi guys,

Just got a DX 4.2 non turbo to replace blown turbo and 3 ltr engine in my GU. its in very good condition, about $6000.000 spent on it. I know engine mounts need to be moved and bell housing to be changed. Is there anything else I should be looking out for??
Thanks.

You can use the 3litre gearbox cross member but it will place the engine about 20-30mm further back, towards the firewall.
I've used the 3litre cross member and it works fine but the engine does sit close to the firewall.

If you can, fit the 4.2litre cross member.

Also, dummy fit the TD42, tack engine mounts in place, remove engine and fully weld mounts, then re-fit engine.

It's not reliable to weld on the mounts going just by measurements, safer to dummy fit fist.
By the engine mounts brand new from Nissan (Nizzbits on here) for $220 the pair.
So much easier than cutting the old ones off the TD42 chassis and re-welding them on the 3litre chassis.

Everything else is pretty straight forward.
