Pajero Model / Tech Database

Post by Bitsamissin »

I get asked this a lot especially from o/seas guys so I thought I'd do a summary of all the Pajero models that were released in Oz so international models can be cross referenced for parts/accessories.
I'll expand the contents as time goes by.
I'll make this a sticky so feel free to add any additional imfo to the database :D

NOTE :- by checking the compliance plate located under the bonnet or the firewall specific vehicle details such as engine and gearbox codes plus diff ratio's are listed.

NL 3.5L (Gen 2.5)

15" rims dont fit, front brakes too large. Calipers hit the rim.

If you intent to swap the rear LSD to the factory rear locker, right hand side axel needs to be shortened. Or source a genuine one from a locked centre.

NK model Mar 97-Oct 97

Also needs 16" rims, front brakes too large. Calipers hit the rim. This model was the first release with the larger front brakes used in the NL.

differences between the NF and NG superwagons

NGs had the following
- coils in the rear
- larger washer bottle reservior
- chrome "truck style" side mirrors
- same 15 inch rims as NA-NC only chromed
- side steps were dropped from the standards list
- rear mudflaps shortened

That must be the GLS.

The GLX came with them as standard.

Hi,
just looking at the information on gear ratios - how do we convert what is speced to actual (not sure of the correct term) turning ratios?

EG:

1st Gear - 45/1
2nd - 28/1
(etc)

Transfer case

1st - 90/1 etc?

Is there a conversion table for this type of calculation?

Not quite sure of your question there ?
If your talking about total gearing ratio's then :-

gear ratio x t/case reduction x final drive ratio = total low range reduction

So a Gen 2 5sp 3.0 V6 Paj with a 4.875 diff ratio will have a 1st gear low range reduction of :-

3.918 (1st gear ratio) x 1.925 (t/case low range ratio) x 4.875 (diff ratio) = 36.77 : 1

In high range it will be 3.918 x 1.0 x 4.875 = 19.10 : 1

Or are you talking about km/hr per 1000 rpm in a given gear ??

Forgive me my ignorance, but could you explain to me what do you mean by "final gear ratio" and why two numbers are listed ? This is not the gear ratio of the axles, because it should be the same, right ? So what is this ?

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Yes they are the final drive (diff) ratio's that were available in those models. It should really read 4.625 or 4.875.

Has anyone got a workshop manual for a 83 SWB 2.6 ltr Petrol Pajero.
I have only recently bought this vehicle but it seems that the previous owner wired up the spotties the wrong way & caused a small melt-down in some of the wiring.
Now it seems that everything else works fine but I cant seem to get any low beams. 2 wires are melted & broken & will need replacing but I need the wiring diagram to help me through this.
If anyone has the manual it would be greatly appreciated if you would be able to scan the pages refering to the electrical wiring & email them to me at cmonique@dodo.com.au

Kind regards
Dan

Factory PTO winch takes HD90 in the gearbox , which is a gearbox oil
NOT an EP or HYPOID oil

This site http://www.motorpowerinc.com/specs/spec-mitsu.html has some engine specs for the Pajero & Triton 2.6 (4G54) and the Triton 2.4 (4G64.) It's a US site, so everything is imperial.
