Are FJ45 & HJ47 clutches interchangeable?
I've got a FJ45 1981 that's had a 2H transplant before I bought it. I pulled out the clutch today & it's stuffed, the driven plate has hard rubber cylinders instead of cushion springs, one of which had been torn out preventing the clutch from disengaging. Can some one tell me if this is a FJ45 or a HJ47 clutch & whether they are interchangeable:?:
yes they will interchange, the 6 cylinder engines use the same clutch dimensions and coarse input shaft spline.
the toyota factory clutches and some aftermarket use rubber blocks instead of springs in the clutch driven plate to provide allegedly quieter, better damped engagement. and reduced on/off throttle harshness.

hrm.. he could be right but I'd swear I've interchanged the two before.
if there is a difference in clamping pressure, the FJ will be stronger, the 2F makes 30 or 40 more peak Nm than the 2H
