Electric worm gear winch conversion

I just got a Ramsey RE8000 24V worm gear winch that I want to convert into hydraulic....stock electric motor spins at 2400 revs while a hydraulic motor is gonna make it at less than 1000 rpm. Hence, I'm not sure if I should keep or not the built-in reduction gearbox in order to roll the whinch at a decent speed.

My hydraulic setup accounts on a pto 15gpm@2800 rpm gear pump, not sure yet about the hydrolic motor to choose, but definitely will plumb a flow and pressure valves in the circuit. I wouldn't run a higher pressure than 2500-3000 psi,

If I found the winch still spins too slow, I would swap the 360:1 gears out of the reduction box by a set of 1:1 sprockets and drive chain, leaving the stock 46:1 gear ratio of the worm gear.

1000 rpm at 360:1 reduction will have your winch rotate slightly less than three turns per minute.
I suspect, you'll have plenty if epic tales of looooooooooooooong winch recoveries in the future


My cheapo winch has 250:1 reduction, but the electric motor spins at much more than 1000rpm, and it is slow

That´s right and is the reason I believe a 1:1 sprocket conversion will bring this winch to a faster pulling velocity. I already got a Charlynn H serie hydraulic motor to fit in, it´s a 2.8cu in unit, 914 max RPM@12gpm, max pressure is 1800 psi...Now I gotta find the sprocket sets and test this thing out. If I don´t get happy with the results, I would swap the motor by a Parker 110A series ....more compact, higher working pressurre, then higher torque figures.
