Petrol Rocky - engine upgrade query

Post by zed »

Hey guys, has anyone got any good background info on the Toyota engines used in the petrol Rocky?

I know mine has the carbi 3Y engine, which was also used in Toyota vans, but then there's also the 3YE (fuel injected I think)...

It'd be good to get my head around the different models so I can maybe experiment with a newer motor in mine.

There was a thread on all the different Toyota engines that would fit a petrol Rocky a while back.

Thanks David.

With a lot of patience, I've managed to find the info you must be referring to - just had to take several guesses at what to search for!

Well the other route u can try is dropping in extractors and run a Weber DCNF which is what i did on mine if u're going for the bolt on route.
But unless u're mad like what my dad did, he blueprinted the engine, reprofiled cams and runs a 4Y block which is basically a 2.2 litre engine engine.
But if i have my way i would like to drop in a 1KZ 3 litre turbo diesel into the Rocky for off roading.

I'm sure any car can be converted into EFi but end of the day we ought to question is it justifiable.
