my def 110 vent seals leaked (a little air/ water) from day one. so when they had almost fallen off i replaced them with the old series ruber ones. the difference being the defender ones are foam ruber mounted to the vent flap, the series ones are rubber mounted to the bulkhead. i installed them with sikaflex adhesive sealant. they have been spot on for 8 months, but have started to whislte above 85kms/h. my old s111 never did, mabe i never got up to 85 in it. i've checked for leaves and shit and the rubber still looks good. any ideas??????
cheers, Serg

defender vent seals

..I'm reminded by this thread of a wisecrack story I read elsewhere;
..I think Frank Elson put it in a UK mag.....
.....Seems the guys at L/R 'Quality' control were getting fed up with the bad customer feedback & complaints about leaks in the defenders & being told that other 4x4s never had such terrible wet weather performance, so they decided to do something about it...
Two of their bright sparks decided to nip out east & find out what the opposition was doing, & copy it......
They went to see the top guy at JappaMoto Heavy Industries (..or where-ever it was..) & asked him how they'd managed to successfully keep water out of their vehicles.
" Ah-so..!" he says, " We use ra-test technorogy for this..! It called CAT!"
"Oh," say the visitors " Never heard of it!"
" Sure, you got CAT in Engrand..! Four regs, tail, whiskers...?? Put CAT in
car....go home for reekend.! If when come back Monday, CAT dead then
cab is airtight..! If cab airtight, then is watertight yes..?? Work velly good ...you try...!!"
"Right-ho ...Many thanks!"
They head for home & once back at the factory, they put the new plan into action...
.....Grabbed a fresh TD5 5-door 110" off the line, shoved it into a paint booth then located the works 'mouser sleeping in the tea room, locked him in the vehicle & all buggered off home for Bank Holiday weekend....
..When they turned-to on Tuesday..
...The cat was gone..!!
( ...Sorry, could'nt help it..!!)
