China FMC Style Event Update
Hey guys,
Well it's been a while since my last post in here, and I can tell you that we have been hard at it building our vehicle for the International Strange Vehicle Games to be held in China late October. We got our hands on an early 80's Jeep Cherokee, 360, 727 auto, new rear LSD, new suspension, and various other bits and pieces for $1400. The body was rusty in few places, but the chassis was perfect.
We have since ripped the body off completely, just leaving the fire wall and the floor pan till just behind the driver. We have used roughly 50 metres of tubing to create the cage/frame for the vehicle, and it is quite some serious bar work. I do have some pics but not on this computer, so when I get a chance I'll attach some pics.
We are nearly up to the sheet metal stage, but before we do, we need to get a hold of some decent tyres. We are after some 33"-35" tyres, second hand preferably as we dn't have that must cash to spalsh around, and there is no point having new ones when we are only using them for three days, and we'll nbever see the vehicle again.
Can anyone recommend a decent tyre shop that deals in 2nd hand 33"-35" tyres, or does anyone around the Brisabane area have any that they would like to sell? I have approached Fourbies at Moorooka and they said they may be able to sell us some 33" MT Baja Claws, ex competition, but it may be a little pricey. If anyone can help out that would be greatly appreciated. I'll keep you updated on our progress.
Regards Peter.

You have no guards, no floor and only want 33-35 inch. Do you have the gearing and hp to run bigger?
Well I'm guessing that they didn't think everyone would carry on like a big bunch of sooky girls over it like they have........
Thanks for the link, already had a look at that, but we really only need stuff located around the Brisabne area.
By no means do we need to only run 33-35. We will definately have the gearing and HP to go bigger, but financial constraints is what has dictated me to go along that route. For sure if you can find any bigger for a decent price, then let me know. Ideally we really need to assess when is big too big, and will it hamper our chances on any of the courses. Not knowing the exact events is a problem, yet we do know that wthere will be all different kinds of terrain, and surfaces.
So if you can find anything bigger for around $600, let me know.

I'm finally able to get a few pictures on here. I've attached some of the vehicle as we got it, then after stripping, then in the build progress. All we have left to do now is some sheet work, and a bit of the electrics. All the piping for the radiator at the rear is done, the wiring is almost complete, and finally need some tyres. All going to plan it should be finished within the next week or so. Fingers crossed.
Regards Peter.

Hey guys, well we finally finished our car a few weeks back, and it's on it's way to China as we speak. I have some pics to share but unfortunately attachments don't seem to work on this forum. So if you click on the link below there are some attached to the post there. I'll let how we end up going in China.
