hey there people just wondering can you help?
I brought a second hand complete 80 series front diff!
When i stripped it i found alot of sea water where oil and grease should be.
The CV were rusted solid, so i called the wrecker and arranged to get some CV's that were not rusted up.
When they arrived it was noticed that the lenght of the stub(7mm shorter) and the diameter of the were less .
what differences are there in the CV's in an 80 series
PLEASE HELP
Chad

Hi
Early c/v shafts in the small braked diffs till 8/92 aswell as all the dx c/v's are shorter in the shaft. To fix this u need a set of early constant drive plates or a set of hilux or cruiser free wheeling hubs.
The fact they are smaller in diameter means they are aftermarket ones, and not genuine.

It was the 95 update that recieved the longer CV outer spline this was to combat the spline wearing in the drive plate on the constant 4WD models the strenght of the CV are the same but you need the shorter if running freewheel hubs. If the longer c/v's are used the end of the axle chews into the FW Hub outer cover and the CV bell chews into the inside of the swivel ball.

Hi
I have a 94 and it has the longer ones. i think you are 2 years out, as the bigger brakes came in at the beginning of 1fzfe @ 8/92, as did the longer c/v and thicker drive plates. I hope u r mistaken with the damage aswell, as i have been running FWH with long c/v's for a few months now.

We have the 94 and it definately requires the longer stub axle...these longer ones are hard to find, hence we have to run the shorter ones with large washers bolted on the ends to hold them in place. Where can we get the longer ones?
