5.1 diffs
5.1 diffs
i have heard that the vitara has come out at one point in its life with 5.1 diffs?and was wondering if anyone can tell if they will fit into 93' sierra diffs?
as i am looking to run bigger tyres and drop the diff back down to de-stress the engine also how hard this would be to do myself ( i have moderate skill level) and which vitara they came in?
or
where i can get different ratios for my zook?
any help would be apperciated

Yes the vitara did come out in 5.1 diffs. No sure which model but the wreckers shouls be able to help.. They will fit in your diff, all you have to do is change the R&P with you center..
There is one catch though - they seem to be as rare as Rockin Horse #$@% - We found this out when we landed on a rock, broke the carrier and chipped the R&P
Sam will be able to give you more info..

This is third hand knowledge, but I thought the 5.12 were only in the auto tranny vits?
Actually, a quick search reveals that some have 4.3, some 4.625 and some 4.875 as well. Seems to vary greatly between tansmission/wheelbase options. Check current model specs here Would pay to know what ou have first, may not be necessesary to go down to 5.12.
A mate is fitting 5.12s to his vit this week. Picked up a pair of complete centers in GC from the breakers for something like $500.

Camo , I don't use the spacers .
The front diff in your 93 is a single pin hemisphere this is a weak varity
try to get a four pin hemisphere to put in with your new ratios.
these are found in the narrow track 1.3. you need a front one because the side gears in these match your front axles ,axles are a different size front and back.
now the reason they use the spacer rings is the ring gear is narrower but you can get the backlash ok without them ,one thing to remember you need to use the ring gear bolts from the 5.1s as these are shorter.
if you did use the longer ones they seat in the bottom of the thread before taking up tension and you end up with a loose ring gear before you know it.

Its a bit confusing because suzuki seem to change the model name for every market and American Vitara is a ozi Grand Vitara
I'm running 5.12's with lockrites and have had no problems over the last 18 months.
I machined down the carrier and fitted a shrink ring then machined up some spacers to get the backlash adjusters rite.
I hear that you can buy a kit now so that they are a bolt in fit.
Too easy.
I paid $150.00 each at a wrecker in Sydney for the 5.12's total cost installed was about $450 for the pair.

It's OK if you are going up to bigger tyres, but 5.12s are a big step up.
I'm going to be running the vit auto tranny and 5.12s which has 0.73 overdrive so it works out pretty good with 31s
