Hey guys I was wondering what you guys would use for stripping the cab back. I was repairing couple of dents today and realised the cab has that much high fill primer it would take forever with the orbital. I dont have a DA sander or a big enough compressor to run one. How about one of those flap wheels on the grinder? So far I've ended up using a combination of a rustwheel/wire brush in the grinder and the orbital. Both suck.
paint stripers is the way 2 go but your probly guna find bog all over the place why do u want to go back to bare steel the grinding disck will rip the steel up 2 much and you will then have to bog the lot
I have used 2 methods (both are used by panelbeaters I know).
(1) 12" grinder and very coarse sanding disc - very quick, very cheap, gets paint dust everywhere and make sure you aren't heavy handed so you just remove paint and bog and not metal.
(2) Paint stripper - a bit slower, more work, more expense (and the burns feel great if you don't have enough protective gear) leaves a lot of mess but no dust. I usually use this method since I have aluminium panels, my panelbeater friends almost always use (1).
