NEW MODEL HILUX ?

Post by Rich »

I have heard rumours of a new model Dual Cab sr% hilux in March next year, does anyone have any way of finding out what they are changing / adding to it?

I think the Prado 4.0 litre petrol engine is one option.
Maybe 3.0 TD automatic is another....

Just rumours as far as I know though.......
Rich.

Myabe they are finally go to throw the 1KD-FTV donk in, that the Japs have had in their domestic Hilux and Prado's for a couple of years now.
DOHC Diesel, 16Valve, Common Rail Direct EFI, Variable Nozzle Turbo.
I guess we can only hope.

Hi lux

I don't think they have a new diesel motor planned, maybe just put an intercooler on the current TD.
And introduce the Prado Auto Transmission into the Hilux range.

Hope they dont find out who i am

the new Hilux is a beauty.

4 cyl is still the 2.7 3RZ engine but it has VVTi, more powerfull.
will still have the 1KZTE 3lt desiel

the V6 is a monster. 4lt, and more powerfull than the Prado's.
it will also come in the 2wd!!!!

it looks bigger and beefier too.

They are changing the desiel to help suit the new emission laws and for the bit more power to be closer to the power of the navara.

The new motor to be in hilux from March 2005 is the 3lt 1KD-FTE which is currently used in thailand has 92kw and 315Nm, the current 3lt 1KZ-TE makes 85KW and 315Nm. So its a HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!! increase

The 85KW value (or 110KW value for the TD Navara) )is debatable. We have both TD Hiluxes and Navaras at work now and their performance difference is marginal if any at all. I flog the crap out of these and they both feel similar, not 30% different. Even with the much taller gearing the Hilux can keep up with Navaras no worries so I don't know who's bull shtting their figures. My 1KZ Surf (rated at 97KW with no intercooler) was also notable faster than a mates dual cab TD STR Navara. We tried many times to prove this wrong. 1KZ has a much more torque earlier on than the ZD30 but on paper is should not. Weird.

You mention it's a 1KD-FTE, could this be a new variant of the 1KD minus the variable nozzle turbo and intercooler. There will be some bloody huge potential for this new motor.

New Hilux SR5

Post by Rich »

How do you guys know this stuff?

I have rang toyota twice now on thier national 1800 consumer help number and they are telling they don't know what changes will be in the new model, and won't know until next year.

I don't understand why they would introduce another diesel motor when they have a 3.0TD in the prado they can use that has 96KW of power ?

The reason they are putting the prado 4.0 petrol in the new hilux is to keep the amount of engines they have down, so why would they then bring out a seaparate diesel motor?
Don't get me wrong, I am hoping the new lux will be a ripper cause I want to buy one, an SR5 dual cab.

I am also hoping they put that Gucci EBD Brake distibution in it, Ive seen it work in the prado's out bush and I reckon its almost as good as Diff Locks.

Your thoughts guys?

PS, if you have inside information, please share mate I am keen to find out. It can't come quick enough for me !

The new deisel is really just a 1KZ with direct injection, common rail. variable vane turbo etc, it will be used in prado no doubt when it gets its update early next years as well.

Interestingly the Japanese spec prado still gets the 3.4l engine like we got in the 90 series, only we get the 4.0l.
And in the US they get the 4.7L 2UZ v8 in there prado's !

thats a tacoma, so the hilux invincable (thats the name of the duel cab i think, my refrence is topgear) will be smaller but i wouldn't rule out it looking like a small tacuma to apeal to the yanks.

So we have a new 5 Speed Auto transmission, which will be available in the diesel as well.

We apparently have a new Diesel motor with more power and torque.

I heard its going to be pretty gucci, to appeal more to the popular family market in which dual cabs are becoming more appealing.

Maybe decent suspension as well, we can only hope!

That would be very interesting. Would any traction, be at all possible. It's hard enough keeping traction with the 3RZ 2.7 petrol 4x2's. Imagine with another 100NM through the R151 box with skinny LT tyres on a light rear end. Chaos.
