Whats this on my Surf???????????????????????

Post by tomsoffroad »

Does anyone know what the canistar under the left front guard on my 84 surf is for?
It has a pipe (about 30mm) leading into the engine bay.
I've looked at it a few times and can't figure it out.

Cheers
Thomas

Just a guess, but does it catch the moisture from the air filter box? I think my surf had one of those and we pulled it out when I fitted a snorkel.

Maybe, are charcoal canisters for emission reasons? It doesn't appear to have ever been hooked up. Its not a vaccum canister.
I've looked in the manual and there is no mention of it, I'd post a pic but thats not an option at the moment.
Buggered if I know, who cares it's gone now :D

Can any one tell me more about charcoal canistars?
Also my Surf has a 6cyl Supra in it.
This canistar thingy looks like it has never been hooked up.

if it stinks of fuel it's probably a charcoal canister.

I may be wrong but don't your fuel vapors go through them? something like that.

I had a quick look under my bro's 89 22r lux hood and he has two..?

Tom did you do the conversion? It may have been disconnected when efi lines were run.

It's a induction resonator to quiten the intake system, Its a empty box which absorbs the intake induction pulses and smooth the air flow. Take it off and block the hole and you will notice in increase in induction noise. Commonly disconnected when fitting snorkles.
