parabolic suspension

Post by Rosey »

Hi Guys,

anyone got parabolic suspension on their SOA SWB patrol? any thoughts on how it'd go? Does anyone know who makes a parabolic leaf for the patrol? Superior engineering makes these for cruisers ($420 per pair i think...cheapish), cruisers would have to be simular weight to patrols right? people got any thoughts on changing spring mounts where necc. to accomadate toyota's parabolic leafs?? If i was doing a shackle reversal it wouldn't be much effort to make a mount for a cruiser shackle, right? thinking of trying parabolics on the front to start with to inprove the rough ride.

comments? thoughts?

cheers

have you rang Mick from superior?
he's a great fella to talk to and will help you out as much as he can. and no i'm not a mate of his or anything just speaking from personal experience

if doing a shackle reversal its not going to be much of an effort to use cruiser mounts and then use the springs.

keep us informed with what you do my GQ is leaf sprung and i'd be interested to see how it works.

I rang mick from superior yesterday, he was helpful. He suggested removing some of the leafs from my current pack and getting them deset (lowered). He seemed to thick the MK patrol came out with parabolic springs, which confused me at first into my understanding of parabolic suspension, however I now think he may have been a little confused or my leaf packs are aftermarket (not likely looking at them).

I guess my next question is how many leafs can you remove? would it be to overboard to remove all but 2 leafs from the front and leave 3 leafs in the rear? remember its SOA so hight is not overly necessary. Mick suggest 3" of lift on the leafs.

any comments anyone??

cheers

Yeah Mick from superior is a dude :) It's gonna be hard for him to tell just by a description though. Is there anyone up your way you could go see :?:

Otherwise just do it and if its no good undo it :D
Edit: the removing of leaves that is ;)

yer I've talked to two suspension shops here in Gladstone and very little seems to be known. I may have to drop by and chat to Mick in person next Brissy trip. For now i'm planning to drop the front leaf pack from 6 to 2 and the rear from 7 to 3. Probably need a ladder/torque bar thingy.

I ran the standard nissan parabolics in mine with soa for ages, they worked really well. 4 leaf front and 3 leaf rear.

Hi MQShorty,

did you find your ride comfort was greatly improved by running less leafs? Do you recon you could get by with only 3 leafs in the front? Is there any chance your entire leaf will invert if you run to few leafs? Did you run a torque bar on the rear?

cheers

It rode really well. The rear were the standard 3 leaf pack and the fronts were originally the standard 6 leaf.I think 3 leaf in the front would be too soft for soa. You will need to run a track rod on the rear if you intend on giving it some shiat  or the springs start to kink in front of the diff.

guys,

Mines SOA, and ive just converyed my leave packs.
Im running 3 in front and 3 in rear. Fronts are almost flat and rears hava a tiny arc on them.
Flex seems great front and rear ( hard to tell till i ramp it ) and its soft as from wat i can tell so far. I may have to put a bigger leave back in the front as its very flat front end,

i'll come up soon mate ;)

cheers bru.

also just do what you think is right, if its too soft put one back. but really you cant be too soft with soa and decent shocks and fat tramp bars
