80 series head swap
i was wondering if anyone out there has done or knows if it can be done. That is i want to take a 24 valve head off a 94 ish landcrusier and put it on to my 91 model hdj80 series with a 1hd-t (12 valve)
Ive read elsewhere it is possible...not sure, however, if you ask the lcool.org list, someone will know for sure. Blocks are thesame, dont know about pistons or whether the pumps are callibrated different, but the turbo on the 24v is bigger than the early one.
I would say at worst, you will only need to change pistons with the head to get valve clearances.

I think the pistons are the same but don't quote me. the swap can be done but the question would have to be 'why?' - the same money would be far better spent upgrading your turbo and exhaust to a more efficient, higher flowing turbo and 2.5 - 3" free flowing mandrel bent exhaust system, with a little dyno time for tuning. The 1HD-T has plenty of potential for stacks more power whilst retaining, even improving fuel economy without going to the 24 valve head.

Yes the 1HD-FT head will bolt on.
At a minimum the pistons and fuel pump are different.
The turbo would work.
Dunno about inlet and exhaust manifolds, conrods.
You'd be MUCH better off to just get your 1HD-T serviced and tuned properly. They make better low down torque and aren't much worse up top than a 1HD-FT. A 3" exhaust can make it sound quite nice and help keep EGT's down too.
