I have a duel fuel VL Commo (3.0L). Ever since I've had it the LPG plays up. It runs fine for a while, especially after a service or after running it on petrol for months, then it just conks out. Idling, accelerating, cruising it doesnt matter. It will just stop. I took it to three places who charged me to tell me there was nothing wrong with it before finally giving up and never running it on gas. But with the fuel prices as they are I filled her up the the other day hoping maybe it had fixed itself . t went fine for about 40km then the problems came back.
I was wondering is there maybe a safety measure like a pressure cut out switch or something. Cause it doesnt splutter it just stops. Any ideas would be appreciated.
'Check the solinoids, earths, and fuseable links. there is also a little gas filter, it sits just before the solinoid on the main feed line to the converter, this could have a resriction in it.
Also check how far away the converter is to the mixer, as there may be to much heat on the line going to the mixer and it is turning to vapour.
There may also be a sensor for a fuel cut out, you will have to check for a sensor on the motor, be it the swich for lpg/fuel, oil pressure, etc..
Its more likely to be an earth related problem, so check that 1st.
Drive it, when it conks out get out and feel the converter - it could be icing up although over that distance I would say it is un-likely but worth checking.
Sorry for the thread hijack, but i have a quick question.
I am probably going to disconnect my gas tank to get it out of the back of the car this weekend. When it undo the hoses on it, will gas piss out everywhere or will it remain sealed??
Don't LPG systems have a heater to prevent icing up where the liquid vapourises? If that's not heating sufficiently the converter may freeze.
Or you could return to one of the shops who have previously taken your money for "no fault found", and pay for one of their mechanics for an hour - then take him for a drive. If he's there when it cuts out they have no excuses.

Turn the tap off that is on the gas line to the front and then run the car on gas till it stops - then try and restart it a few times - that should clear the line from the tank to the front. The tank has a tap on that line as well as a solinoid that also needs to be activated before it will flow - that will stop
gas coming out when you have taken the line off.
The tank also has a one way valve on the filler so you will lose the volume of the filler hose which will just piss out everywhere - shouldn't be too bad.

Scott the heater is a heater line from the car that runs through the converter from the car. If the car's thermostat is buggered/closed or the radiator is over efficient it can stop the converter from heating up properly and thus let the converter ice up.
My car has this problem first thing in the morning as it takes a while for the thermostat to open and in that time the converter will ice up. I run on fuel first up in the morning until the temp gauge rises and then switch over
Thanks guys. I'll check all these things out on the weekend. I wondered if it was some kind of "icing" up problem casue it appears worse at night and during winter. In summer it will often drive long distances before any problem. I'll post up with the results, or lack there of, that I get.
