Cleaning Engine Bay

Morning all,

I am new to the forum (been lurking for a few weeks) and finally have a question to ask.

My vehicle is a 2004 XL-7 limited (luxory off-roading) and before anyone calls me soft, it is a wife friendly 4WD that I can mod. a little untill I can afford to get a sierra as my other car (about 3 years).

The question I have is, I drove through a deep slush puddle a few weeks ago (ripped of the stupid plastic 'bash' plate) and now have a orange engine bay. In my old Landy I used to just pressure clean it, then spray WD-40 and start it........not to sure the electric everyting would like a pressure clean.

Any suggestions, other than using my toothbrush, on how to clean it?

you can buy degreaser from auto stores

(with a cold engine) cover your electronic bits with plastic bags, spray degreaser everywhere and wash it off 15 min later with low pressure water...

some degreasers won't shift dirt, particularly orange...try truck wash, cheap as and easy to find...but definately do what gonzi said, christover

I use truck wash and always hose it off when the engine is running and leave it running until all components have dried.

so.... no washy 4b when engine not running but still hotty.......

is it: either leave the engine on to wash, or, let engine cool completely, then wash.

i always waited until pretty much the engine is cold before washing.

but what about these people that drive to carlovers auto wash bays etc, and open the bonnet, and high pressure their hot engines?

That's me...... engine running and the low pressure engine wash cycle..... oh and I spray my engine with water dispersant from time to time as it makes it harder for the dirt to stick to the motor and helps when I wash it. No problems and keeps it pretty clean.
