Hilux Noise Vibration Problem

Post by deelux »

Recently had the front passenger wheel make a real nasty rubbing, almost grinding woo woo like sound (like the wheel rubbing on something) on my 91 desiel Hilux sr5. Vibration can be felt through the floor but not steering wheel.

It starts at around 60km/h and stays on constantly till you go down to 15 km/h.
If you turn right it stops for a few seconds.
If you hit a pot hole it stops for the same.
It doesnt happen in 4wd on bitumen but does sometimes offroad.
If you turn wheel drastically from left to right it changes pitch.

It did it for the first time a month ago but stoped after 2 days. Did the same thing 2 weekends ago. It seams to come and go as it pleases. Then just yesterday it has decided to do it all the time.

Two Mechanics checked the auto locking hub and said it was fine. And the Brakes have plenty on them.

Q. Am i able to disengage the auto locking hub (just to test). or does it sound like something else?

Any ideas would be much appreciatted?

Just want to get dirty again
