Assistance required with Volvo Portals

Post by MikeMac »

Hi

Forgive my ignorance, but I have a question on removing the axle shaft and CV from the Volvo portal. I have remove hub form the swivel housing(excuse the terminology) and removed the rubber CV boot. However the CV and shaft will not cone out of the hub. I assume that you need to remove the "plug" on the wheel side of the hub to remove the CV and shaft. As I am in South Africa, it is difficult to get parts so I do not want to damage the "plug" if i don't have to.

Any suggestions appreciated.

No Mike you dont remove the plug. The outershaft of the CV has an internal spring ring{circlip} that expands into the portal gear. I remove the CV's with a tyre lever between the swivel housing and CV bell and tapping [belting } the swivel with a heavy copper faced hammer.
