Rock WB

Post by Cheezy4x4 »

Ok all you rock guru's, what is your wheel base and what do you think the perfect wheel base is.
I have 92'' and hate it, will be changing to 106''.
Im sick of lifting wheels, front and rear and being so unstable. :?: :?:

My old wheelbase was 99 inches but the new truck is going to be 104 I think That a hilux has pretty close to the perfect wheel base for rock crawling.
Just my opinion.

I'm on 90" ATM but going to about 96" soon.

You building a Hilux Sam? Is that where the 104 comes from?

Cheezy: If ya sick of lifting the front maybe you could try a wheelie bar?

I am at 120" at the moment and so far i love it. It drives up shit a lot easier and feels a lot more stable.
Was originaly 114.5 from factory.

Great question.

I think if you want to win Tuff Truck then 120+ is the go. I honestly believe that for any of the existing comps (nissan trils etc) that the longer the better.

Now we got XRCC and this will change everything and the really long wheelbases will be at a disadvantage cause they carnt turn.

Still going to make my next rig at 120in though.

SWB suck - just look at the rigs that drove rocky horror at TT all 115in +

AHHH another mass debate.

Defently to short suxs, and too long suxs so there should be a medium in there somewhere, what it is, that is a great question.

I dont even know what mine is i think its about 107 inches or there abouts.

What are they running in the US, it seams there's a bit of everything.

Like Strangerover said Big long wheelbases kick arse when any sort of climbing is involved (like at TT) but would be quite a hand full in a tight, twisty, big mother of a rock to crawl around track that seems to be the order for XRCC.

Sam, Tit for tat the Mav drives logs like thay are not there, and ramp over is good, down hill OK just keep off the brakes but up hill FAARK, I have sat it on the tailgate too many times, big pucker factor.
I have a LWB too at 120" and gets hung up on everything, only has 2" lift and 32" BFG though.
I am looking for something that is a mid WB so it has the advantages of a SWB and the stability of a LWB. I have been looking at 106" but after re measuring, it looks like its going to be 108 to 110", just a little worried about rampover.
The set up I have built ATM has good anti squat and stabitaty and should be even better with a longer WB, this is a must when you have so much power.
It will be interesting to see how stable it is with the swap over to coil overs though ???. :onfire: :D

There is no such thing as the perfict wheel base as short is good for some thing but long is good for other things.

Personaly I think its what you feel happy with. If its 90 and YOU are happy with it then its perfect. But if its 120 that you have and YOU are happy with it then its perfect.

I like my Lux at what it is at, but I have NFI what it is, All I know is it is 40mm longer then standard.

About 105/106 but does not seem to climb the way I would like but that could be the set up on the 4 link rear end. Other than that when i start a new one i will keep to the same wheel base. You have any reasons for your wheel base length Tony?

I think wheelbase is also dependant on tyres....

i was really happy with 106 inch on mine on 38s.... but if i went much bigger in tyres i wouldnt be as happy...

my new rig will run 44s and i would be aiming for about 114 i think...

I generally relate wheelbase with tyre size first.

on 33-35" the rangie was sweet
on 37" the 100" WB of my rangie was not long enough.

Now at a bees dick over 110" with 39s and hopefully i will be happy with it

I personally wouldnt run anything bigger than 38s on a rig shorter than 103", i have no idea why, i just wouldnt  :?
