SWB GQ Drivers Seat Mounts ripped out of floor.

Post by MD4x4 »

Hit pretty hard off a dune at Stockton on the weekend. Discovered today that my drivers seat would not slide forward on the rails. Tilted it forward and discovered the frame is bent as the rear inboard nut for the mount that was welded into the floor has ripped out of the floor leaving a jagged hole about the size of a 50 cent piece.

Anyone had this and has anyone fixed it or got suggestions of how to fix it.

seat mount

The jagged nut you mention is an adaptor bracket. This bolts to the floor with 2 bolts and the seat bolts to it.
Just make a new braket from some 50 x 4 or there abouts flat steel bar.
Passenger side will be craked too. NOTE brackets are LH and RH.
Slide rails are weak, straighten it and weld reinforcing strip to the bottom of the rail to stop it bending again.

Hole

Yeah!

I am not real worried about the bracket.

I am worried about the hole that is ripped out of my floor where the nut used to be that the bracket bolted into.

I have torn these mounts a couple of times. Cos my car is old and the seats are near buggered. on either side of the transtunnel. There is a braket mounted to the floor with to bolts, this thing is just a bit of pressed plate that makes an 'n' type shape. Mounted into the top of this is a nut. Then the seat mounts that you can see above the carpet is bolted to this (drivers will be inside rear). On GQ's this top nut suffers from fatige cracks, and has a tendancy to pull the nut thru the soft metal braket.

These brakets are available from Nissan parts and arnt that expensive. As before I replaced my whole seat mounts (slides and stuff got replace at same time as aftermarket seat went in), I had been thru 2 drivers sides mounts and 1 pass side.
Think they where about $18. biggest bugger thing about it you need to peal back the carpet or take it out to get to the bastard.

If youve torn a hole in floor pan I would advise getting a panel shop to weld in an oversize patch to remount seat on.

OK Thanks,

Ripped the carpet up today, found I have only ripped the centre out of the bracket not the floor pan as I thought. Should be able to get the bracket stengthened at work.
