3.54:1 hilux R&P

3.54:1 hilux R&P
OK I know this is the rover section but thought someone may know this.
I found this R&P ratio in the US for a hilux.
MWT354 TOYOTA 8" GEAR SET 3.54 $208.88
And I was thinking of it for my 110 county, which is only used as a touring vehicle on 33's but I want it to be bulletproof, and the torque and weight of the ISUZU isn't kind to the front diff.
So does anyone know anything about this R&P? What centre does it fit , high or low pinion, and is it available in Australia.

Ben, I think that 3.54 ring and pinion is a Jack McNamara one. I bought one a few years ago to put into the back of my portal axled rig but got put off it when Lockee reported premature wear on his McNamara 4.7:1 hilux ring and pinions. Does anyone else out there run 3.54 :1 JacMacs? and if so how many kilometers have you clocked up?
Bill.

No I don't think so Bill,
I posted a similar thread in the toyota section a while back and this was one of the (few) replies.
So it seems they are a special US ratio - and this is supported by the fact that all the us diff places list this ratio for toyoty 8". Doesn't the Jacmac 3.54 use the 3.72-4.556 carrier??? If so it must be a special one like the 4.7:1

there are 15 diferent ratios available for the Hilux from 3.07 through 6.8
and at one stage I have had every one of them
If you want one you will have to get the complete carrier as the gear set will not fit the 3.72 through 4.556 carrier

That is the only problem, I am trying to find out if there is a high pinion version available. Since clearance isn't as much of an issue on the 110 (mainly a touring vehicle) I could build a bent track rod like the one-ton (salisbury) 110's had.

I will let you know Bill before I buy anything to see if you are interested in a set as well. So far they seem to be pretty uncommon so the hardest part may be finding the appropriate centre to run them.

Ok so still no definite answers but maybe this is an aftermarket only R&P that is manufactured by Precision Gear in the US - who have a very good reputation for making quality R&P's.
http://www.precisiongear.com/toy8.htm
In the toyota 8" 4cyl section.
And here - which states that it is a precision gear:
http://www.drivetrainspecialists.co...ts.php?catid=37
And here - but not specifically listed as a precision gear (and cheapest price).

So does anyone know where Mcnamara's 4.7 and 3.54 hilux ratios are manufactured??? All the reports of work out Mcnamara hilux R&P's refer to the 4.7 - so is the 3.54 the same??? It is possible that Precision make the 3.54 and someone else makes the 4.7, so there may be a big quality difference.

Bill.
So Bill, is the manufacturer for the Mcnamara 4.7's the same????

I don't see how if they are stamped "AM ENG". For a start engineer is spelt starting with an "I" in italian.
Maybe the Precision Gear 3.54 hilux ring and pinions are a lot better quality, but it would be good to get some firsthand experience before forking over $200US for one.
