ARB Compressor trouble

Post by roadrunner »

Just finished wiring up the compressor...........

Flicked the switch, and nothing. :?

Checked the wiring diagram, checked connections, checked diagram again....

Flicked the switch, and nothing :?

Compressor works without the loom ( checked this first ! )..........
Ignition and light source wires are correct.........
Power goes into relay but not out ( tried three relays with same result ! )...
Light in switch shows when lights off, goes out when lights on........
Relay doesn't click when the main switch is thrown.......

Now, Im thinking that maybe because the compressor has been run and I haven't fitted the tyre inflation valve yet, maybe its holding over 65 PSI thereby closing the pressure solinoid.

Even if that were so, why is the light operation back to front ! :x

Any ideas 'cause I'm all out and have now turned to rum for inspiration :D

Try doing these tests:

Remove the relay from its socket and then on the socket, join the 2 connections in the socket that pin 30 and 87 on the relay would plug into. See if the compressor operates. If it dosent, make sure the other end of black cable going to the compressor motor is earthed properly. Also make sure the inline fuse is not blown.

Check the relay socket that the other end of the black cable going into the socket is earthed properly. Re-install the Relay, Next, remove the pressure switch connector. Using a short piece of wire, short the 2 pins on the male half of the connector together BRIEFLY!!!!! and see if the compressor runs. If still no go then make sure you are getting voltage to the loom properly. Check switch connections are ok

Let us know if your using an isolation switch or not and i'll post the wiring colors and pins they are supposed to go to....

Thanks for the reply Nick,

The problem was a large case of the stupids.....

Wiring up the compressor at the same time as the new dual battery set-up......

One thing I hadn't done was earth the second battery to the body

Took me about 8 Rum's to figure it out.

When you mentioned to check the earth to the compressor, the wheels started turning.......... Very, very slowly :D :D
