Hi all,
While playing in the mud today, I heard a loud bang whilst crawling over a log! Turns out the mount on the rear diff for the A-frame ball joint had snapped off! We managed to chain it up, a few tie-downs, and then wrapped the winch cable over the A-arm and diff centre and got it home.
Has anyone snapped this mount before? If so, where should I get it fixed in Melbourne, and can this be made stronger?
I've seen aftermarket ball joints, and assumed they were the weak link.

Snapped A-frame mount on housing!

We have replaced 1/2 dozen of them in the past. we use a totaly different pivot for the A frame and another A frame itself. Give me a buzz 97629032 or drop by and have a look at the A frames we make ( I have 6 rigs in the factory ATM with them) 3 London Dr Bayswater.

I tore the plate nearly off - just holding at one corner and bent badly. Didn't notice at the time but reckon it would have happened when I busted the front uni on the rear drive shaft (and made a mess of the drive shaft.
I cut the plate off and repaired it as best I could for a tempory measure. Sounds like cheezy's mod would be the way to go.
Regarding the aftermarket ball joints such as maxidrive, their main advantage is that they can be greased when you do your service.

Cheezy, would you have to have the rig in your workshop to do this, or could the A-Frame be freighted?
I've done the same thing, and if the repair doesn't hold up I might give you a call.
Cheezy repaired the diff housing! Rebuilt with thicker plate. Didn't go the custom A-frame though, funds didn't permit.
Saw the custom A-frame on a ute he was working on. Looked VERY nice and strong. I'd reckon you'd have to take in your truck to get it fitted, unless you want to do the mount fabrications yourself, or get someone local to do it. Though it looked like most of the work was in the mounts.
Probably no point getting the A-frame made in Melbourne then getting all the mount's done in your home state. Might as well get the whole job done locally. I'm sure Cheezy will elaborate soon on the process.
