MQ Lack of power.. Want bigger Engine!!! HELP PLZ!

Post by stewie81 »

Hey Everyone,

Well i have a 81 MQ LWB with L28 engine and 4 spd... Took it out this weekend and it came home sad!!.. oil leaking from 3 different places and over heating....

What i am after is advise on what to replace L28 with.... I would love to go with a 5Speed Also...

My first thoughts are 308 with 5 spd but i don;t know how easy this is to do or if there is a better option... And What 5 speed box could i just bolt up to my L28 At the Moment...

Hoping Ya'll Can Help...

your best bet would be to find a 5 speed MQ box first, then work out what motor you wanna run, then go form there, youll be able to puck up an injected 5L commo motor for about 2g's, but that involves a computer, so who knows what u wanna do,.

You could just buy a v8 commondore and pull the engine out, probably a cheaper way to get the engine, as for gearbox / engine combinations... wait for screwy & V8 patrol :D
Style Side Maverick Ute
4.2 Turbo Diesel
35" Simex
4" Procomp suspension
2" Bodylift
Fibreglass Stuff....
Now highmount & Plasma :d

Cheers Guys.. it is a start.. ;)

well ideally i would prefer to stick to Pretty Cheap at this stage... I was told just before a ford V8 the 351 would be better..
But i am REALLY confused as i can do simple mechanical things but this type of thing (conversions) are a bit out there for me..

Any idea how much a 5spd Mq box will Set me back?..

CHEERS

why not remove the radiator and hose otu the fins, that will usually cure your overheating issues

as for engine, how much do you want to spend?
Sell it and buy something with a better engine, it will work out better, cheaper in the long run.
