Window Tinting

Post by Croz »

I am getting my windows done soon but am tossing up how dark to go...

35% is legal here in NSW but am considering 15% cos it looks beter, keeps the car cooler and hides more of whats inside the car to passers by.

What have ppl done here and has anyone been defected for windows too dark??

A mate got pulled over for speeding in Qld and got told by the copper to take the tint off his windscreen as it was illegal (we knew that already of course) however he never said anything about the extremely dark tint on the rest of the windows.

Don't know of how insurance would go if you made an accident claim and they proved that you didn't see the other car because of the illegal darker tint.

My missus is a window tinter - I'll ask her in the morning what the exact rules are and get back to you...

In the meantime, Is your truck a wagon? If it is, the rear windows can be a lot darker than 35% legally. The windscreen still can't be tinted, and the front windows can only be 35%.

Its a Feroza, so not really a wagon, but has no rear passenger doors.

Check my avatar, and thanks for the info.

NSW too. I have had an insurance claim through NRMA with 20% on all round on a vl commo wagon without probs.

20% is pretty good, keeps all the glare out and people can hardly see in, you can also see out at night fairly well. Go with 20%, 15 is almost black paint and you've got to think of your own vision aswell.

Hey Croz
I am getting my car tinted tomorrow
Its costing me $200 for a 20% metal finish tint... thats with lifetime warranty.
I was going to go 35, but then you will probably find that you can get defected for 35 anyway, unless the company puts a sticker on your window saying what grade it is.

When the police put the light meter on the window 35% will range anywhere between 31-38ish.

Dont go any darker than 20%..... just imagine trying to reverse down a narrow driveway when its pissing with rain in the dark!

Ill post some pics once the car has been done in 20 to show you all!

Thanks guys,

The bloke who is gonna do it said he cant get straight 20% anymore, and that the film he uses is more of a 15%. Its a titanium based film and has a waranty. I dont know a lot more than that, and my drive is about 40m long and has a big hedge one side and bush the other... hmmm.

if you like goin on night runs in your 4by I would not reccomend 20% or lower :?

Unless ofcourse you dont give a flying fark about your panels or anything thats within wacking radius of your truck....

tint

Post by embryo »

in victoria you can black out every window except the front two which can be no more than 35% and nothing on the windscreen as stated, find out what you laws are and go with it. because its a pain to remove tint if you get caught and becomes costly to tint again just cos it looked cool.

dark tint is stupid. i have tried driving with dark as side windows and a std windscreen. it sucks. why put motorcyclists and other lives at risk for the sake of looking tough. you can't see when merging at night properly and the like.
the law is for a reason.
