Does anyone have a link to a snokel section ie dimensions etc, (there was some instructions posted on doing it). Also does anyone know what tool is used to cut the hole in the panel for the snork. I was thinking about using a drill with a door hole cutter but not sure?

Why a snorkel on a Feroza :cry:

CAUSE: I made a provisionally snorkel - using a flex-pipe - for a trip last summer (I posted a video some time ago) to prevent my engine from water...

It did not work -> meaning, that the engine is not running well when driving into water which is deeper than 60-70cm (= about wheel diameter). There is no need for snokel in this case...

Some other components will become wet, but I don't know which ones. I played around with a hose at home but I am not able re reproduce the problems I have when driving in water.

It seems to me that the engine ran only on 2-3 zylinders...
It's definitivly not the ignition/distributor (tested with a bucket full of water)

What are your experiences ???

haasa... i would bet you 10-1 its the dizzy.. i know you said its not.. but i'm sure it is... you see, when the dizzy is rotating (ie, engine is running) theres a hose towards the bottom of the dizzy that sticks out a bit.. thats the vent hose for the dizzy.... meaning it is air dried/cooled.... when i played around with it, i learned that the dizzy will repeatedly suck in/blow out air since its a vaccuum system. when the engine is revved real high (typical while wheelin) the suction is strong enough to suck in droplets of water that is sprayed from the wheels and off of the firewall from the underside. the dizzy really likes to attract water and it doesnt take much water to be sucked in in order to have the dizzy start runnin all funky since water is very conductive.... so play around with it. seal up your dizzy with some gasket maker and run a longer hose farther away from the engine compartment..... it should help.

To counter that use a wading sheet... any petrol engine will have the coughs after a swim. Water gets into places like the dizzy, alternator and causes trouble, but this does dry out. The other problem is the water allows electricity to be conducted between plug leads and the block and will make the engine run like a wet bag of shit, diesels dont have this problem as they dont have plugs. If you have a snorkel it will stop the engine injesting water, and then bending rods and such.

If you take water into the combustion chamber and try to compress it you will terminate the engines life. If the alternator gets wet you can still dry it out or replace it. Lots cheaper.

I mainly want the snork cause it looks tuff, purely cosmetic. I'm not actually ever going to test on fording rivers, not after taking the Skyline swimming in the Tingalpa creek. God I loved that car.

i had a home made PVC snorkel on my old feroza and i used to drive water and slop holes thet were as deep as the the window sills. and i never had any probs except with alternator filllin up with mud. the only special thing i had done was cover all the electrical connections with this non drying, non conductive silicone grease. also sealed up dissy and extended breather into cab with diff breathers.

Lots of custom gear as I cant afford the proper stuff.
