Non Paj motors in Pajeros

Post by Ian Sharpe »

Guys,

There was a post on one of the forums about a 3.8l Comm blown motor as a replacement for the Paj 3.5l.

I have thought about this long & hard & would love to do this , maybe even with a small (in physical size V8) motor. I know that everyone accepts that there is not much room in the bay & that the 3.5l motors are extremely small in size (& they sure are) .

But what do you reckon.. if a motor could be found that would fit. would it be easier to :

mate the motor to the existing bell housing & thereby use the paj trannie & case. Then the problem would be to get the new motor to talk to the Paj tranny..

or

go the other way & use a tranny that fits the new motor & worry about trying to mate the new tranny to the Paj transfer case. that way you can use the electrics off the new motor & tranny but of course then have a problem trying to get an adaptor plate made.

what does everyone reckon???

Your going to take a step backwards if you opt for a 3.8 commy engine. They are a real dunger, and will start to rattle in no time. They have less power than the DOHC and about 2Nm more. The supercharged 6 obviously will have more power, but being the same engine its still a dunger.

If possible I would go a 4L lexus V8, 6 bolt mains, 180kw I think, however it is a high reving engine so may lack bottom end torque. Do a google on them and theres plenty to be done in the performance side of things.

Thats just my opinion though...

www.rodshop.com.au have Toyota supercharger kits modded for Holdens - why not a supercharged 3.5L Paj ?

Even better CAPA made to suit Paj :) %60 power increase is claimed (to 220kw) and the cost, well they offer finance on these kits :)

Me thinks this is located in Zimbabwee, but http://www.alpine-developments.co.za/pa ... harger.htm

OR maybe twin turbos?

Begbie,

I've been down the CAPA charger for the Paj 3.5l road.

They sell (used to) the Alpine unit but according to Alpine they no longer market it due to

1. lack of demand
2. apparantly too many engine variences worldwide with the 3.5l Paj motor.

I find point 2 hard to believe, however I am only going on what ALpine have told me.

My last email to them they replied

"we discontinued the 3.5l supercharger BUT recently have had a bit of demand for it, so MAY bring it back into production."

who knows if that will ever happen.

i am surprised about the negaive comments about the Commodore motor, I drove a supercharged 3.8l & man it went!!!!!

cheers

2 other options:

Gt3000 twin turbo engine

Pajero Evo Mivec 3500cc engine.

Both are good for easy 220kw..

I would supercharge the 3500cc. Be a heap easier and far cheaper. Still good for 220kw.

Grant,

I agree that is the easiest way, however there doesnt seem to be a non centrifugal charger available at the mo.

A factory fitted forced induction system is always going to be an easier option as they have done all the hard work.
The same goes for the trans, use a matching unit and adapt it to the transfer,or maybe to a GQ transfer, adaptors for the 700 are already available, then it will be simple to do the next step,a SAS,because the front propshaft will be on the correct side .V6 commo!!

The pictures in the CAPA ad appear to be a positive displacement blower on a 3.5L.
