Non Paj motors in Pajeros

Guys,
There was a post on one of the forums about a 3.8l Comm blown motor as a replacement for the Paj 3.5l.
I have thought about this long & hard & would love to do this , maybe even with a small (in physical size V8) motor. I know that everyone accepts that there is not much room in the bay & that the 3.5l motors are extremely small in size (& they sure are) .
But what do you reckon.. if a motor could be found that would fit. would it be easier to :
mate the motor to the existing bell housing & thereby use the paj trannie & case. Then the problem would be to get the new motor to talk to the Paj tranny..
or
go the other way & use a tranny that fits the new motor & worry about trying to mate the new tranny to the Paj transfer case. that way you can use the electrics off the new motor & tranny but of course then have a problem trying to get an adaptor plate made.
what does everyone reckon???
