whether to bye a serria or vitara
whether to bye a serria or vitara
my brother is looking at a new 4by and is trying to decide whether to og for a vitara or serira. He knows that the vitara has a biger engine coil springs and ifs suspension and are better to drive on road, but what are they like as an off road 4by. just after some advice, Thanks.
The vitara does have better on road characteristics but having owned one i would not suggest buying one for more serious offroad work.
If he ust wants to do the easier side of things OK, but due to the slight lack of cheap aftermarket parts and the difficulty of fabricating parts yourself they will limit what you can do.
The sierra is cheap to mod, parts are easy and they do have better offroad capability out of the box than the Vit, however onroad (from what i hear, i;ve never driven one)they do lack a little in comparason.
Well I'm guessing that they didn't think everyone would carry on like a big bunch of sooky girls over it like they have........
as sierra jim says, Sierras are better suited to modifying and more difficult terrain. you can build a very capable sierra with just bolt on bits and not much fabricating of custom work.
it really comes down to what you (your brother) wants to do with a 4wd. there are always sacrafices to make, such as better off road ability will result in poorer on road characteristics, and vice versa.
same goes with the mods, like suspension lift, and up sizing of tyres etc. first work out what you want to do or where you want to drive (terrain and difficulty) and then make a decision.
to answer the question, whats better? a sierra, or a vitara, i'd have to say a sierra, just because they are just that little bit more fun to drive, especially when its up on two wheels.......... j/k.
go sierra, cheap, fun and capable.
hope this helps.

p.s. i drive a vitara and it was a rough road to get it where it is today.

i've had 4 sierras and now got my first vite, sierras are a ball off road, cheap to run, light and fun. around town they're zippy. on the highway, they're a PIG!! slow, can't overtake without a 1 klm run up, get blown about with winds etc. the vite is excellent on the road, sits on 120 klm easily, overtaking is a breeze, it's comfortable, and good, but i still had a ton more fun in my sierras. the vite is bigger, heavier, lower, and dearer to fix if you do break something.
hope this helps
