I have raced on the Silverstones for almost five years now...bang for buck they can not be beaten. Price should be around $240 fitted and a thin knife with baby oil will slice the centre out nicely.
The centre rib gives better steering and side slope holding but lifts the tread up off the rocks.
I run mine at 5-8psi without beadlocks and recently won the road registered class of the A4WDMRA (mud racing) for the last season.
Before you spend though...Silverstone have just released a new tyre. Email me at
simon@4wdtv.com.au and I will forward a pic...it will blow you away!

one of my mates that lives near me has put em on his 60 series cruiser. he reckons they are great and picked them up for $100 each and had only done one trip!!!! BARGAIN
i think new he said they are about 220 for a 35
also they are a VERY SKINNY tyre

OK...Hottiemonster...you are still talking about the MT117 whilst everyone else is talking about the Silverstone MT117 Xtreme. Both tyres are 35x11x16 but Malaysia had asked me to consult on sizes for Australia and I advised 31, 33 and 36x12.5 for 15 and 16s.
Brock sold his old 117s to a mate for $100 each...a bargain. Retail for the 117 is around $240 ...
...but the Xtreme will retail for around $300
Still great value for a 6 ply that combines the benefits of a rag/bias belted tyre with those of a tubeless tyre!
I have also secured exclusive sales for the tyre through Brawn 4x4 in Dandenong. There are only 50 tyres in this first shipment at the docks now waiting for clearance.

That tyre looks awesome! The TSL/SX side-wall bits look the goods too...
Mudtoy.. do you know the going price on the 33 x 12.5 x 15 MT-117 Sport?

whats the tread depth compared to a simex ET ?
Posted: Thu Oct 14, 2004 4:51 pm
by mudtoy
still waiting for mine to be unloaded off the boat so I can't give full feedback...will be as deep as simex though.
I did not advise for the 35s for three reasons. Firstly, 35x11x16 is already made and is waiting on the docks! Secondly, because of CCDA rules, 36 is now a more popular competition size and finally, Silverstone has a track record of being slow and limited with tyre sizes...I didn't want to push it!

does anyone know the website details so we can
a read about them?

it's great to see the entire 4x4 market getting more competition in it .. especially in the areas that you can do yourself like rubber .. and that is looking sweet ..
I am assuming that withthe nice void down the centre the tyre will be able to flex more easily in th tread area than the older 117 ..
Tell customs to get off their backsides and get em cleared so we can hear some war stories about these new shoes from malaysia ..

They look awsome. Looks like larger spaces between the middle lugs compared to the centipedes.

What are the actual sizes and OD's - do you have the specs mudtoy???
The old MT117 (280/85/16) was listed as a 900mm (35.4") diameter - but people I know who used them said they were up to 36".
How about the centipede pattern in a 37 or 38"??? (x16 for me). May not be used in CCDA comps but plenty of other people will want them (me included).

Sports is still not landed in a 15 but the 33x12.5x16 Sports is around $240.
Specs and web details are still unavailable as the tyre has been a well guarded secret. Malaysia contacted me around 6 weeks ago with limited info and specs and trye dealers here were made awares last week. All we have is that one pic...but I will have one on the Brawn stand at the National 4x4 show in melbourne...
Wider centre void with directional fingers
mud scrags between lugs on shoulder
slightly different side biters
Dual construction...tubeless bias.

Talk about breach of copyright.. If Mickey Thompson spat it with Mudzillas, Simex will be in court before they hit the streets

They are on the market and have been for ages, so why will it be any worse than the silvers?
